A Brief History of Chiropractic Care

The history of chiropractic care has its roots traced all the way back to the beginning of time. Various writings from China and Greece mention spine manipulation and the movement of the vertebrae to ease lower back pain. Many texts were also published, that detailed about the importance of chiropractic care. In the United States alone, the history of chiropractic care began gaining momentum in the late nineteenth century, which led to the popularity of the practice of spinal manipulation. Around 1895, Daniel D. Palmer founded the Chiropractic profession after extensive research on the vertebrae alignment and its effect on nerve functions. He later on established the Palmer School of Chiropractic which focused on subjects based on his findings.

The doctors of chiropractic started gaining legal recognition. Earlier, the practice of chiropractic was not considered a mainstream medical practice. The continuing recognition and respect for the chiropractic profession has been a major milestone in the history of chiropractic care. In course of time, the approach of chiropractic care has been remodeled and innovated to further focus on the healing power of the body. Furthermore, the cost effective treatment helped people who could not afford high priced treatments. Many chiropractic physicians agreed and implemented the methods that helped heath care world to save millions of dollars in treatment.

Continuous dedication of people in chiropractic research has lead to the discovery of innovative methods that help in preventing and fighting health problems in future. Many current researches by the doctors of chiropractic have changed this field of alternate medical practice into a simple and science-based approach for numerous ailments.

Doctors of chiropractic must have completed four to five years of study at an accredited chiropractic college. The curriculum includes classroom, laboratory and clinical experience which includes learning about alignment techniques and spinal analysis in chiropractic care. Medical stream students who aspire to become doctors of chiropractic must pass the national board exam and other qualifying exams. A chiropractic aspirant who wishes to become a doctor of chiropractic should have completed education in both basic and clinical sciences and health related subjects. The sole intention of chiropractic study is to provide an in-depth understanding about the structure and function of the human body. The educational program includes training in basic medical sciences like that of human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry which would help a doctor of chiropractic to diagnose and treat patients.

Thus the future and scope of the chiropractic care is bright no matter how many hurdles it had to face in the past.
